Wassailing is a lovely old tradition or custom that has taken place throughout the country for hundreds of years.  Like many Winter Festivals, it has become a day, where old customs and beliefs have combined to make this a day of Celebration and fun. It is usually on the 6th January, which is the 12th night after our ‘modern’ Christmas, but is also still Celebrated as the ‘Old Christmas day’ by many (Calendars have changed, and some religions and cultures still mark this as a special festive day)  It is also referred to as ‘Three Kings Day’!  The custom we are specifically marking is the rebirth of Apple Trees to flourish and grow more apples this year.. so that ‘We may have more Cider when we call….!’  Help Members of Sompting Village Morris, The Wellington Wailers and guests, chase away the evil spirits.  This all takes place at the Duke of Wellington (BN43 6RE) Great atmosphere especially at this time of year.  Bring your friends and dress up with lots of ‘green’
